The Qualicum Beach Streamkeepers Society has been recognized by the Town of Qualicum Beach for thirty years of contributing to the protection and improvement of wild fish habitat in and around the community.
Mayor Teunis Westbroek spoke at the 12th annual Beach Day in Qualicum Beach event, where many of the Society’s supporters and volunteers were present.
“ Due in large part to the support and encouragement provided by the Qualicum Beach Streamkeepers, the Town of Qualicum Beach has two healthy streams which provide habitat for hundreds of juvenile salmon each year. The many volunteers work to gather information on the stream flows and conditions, improve the stream banks and remove invasive plants, and help inform our residents of the value of protecting our local stream environment”.
Mayor Westbroek also recognized two individuals (shown below) who symbolize the contribution that the Streamkeepers have made. Dave Clough, a well known fisheries biologist, was present when the Society was formed thirty years ago and has continuously supported and advised its members. Sacha Woroniak, who has been the youth advisor to the Board of the Society for several years and active in all its activities, was also thanked for her contribution.
