The Town of Qualicum Beach agreed to work with QB Streamkeepers to replace the well-worn Brant Viewing Platform at the west end of the Beach, near the estuary of Grandon Creek.
A project team was formed, including representatives from QB Streamkeepers, Arrowsmith Naturalists and the Town of Qualicum Beach to do a major rework of the site. A roofed pavilion, extensive interpretive signage, and an expansive planted area featuring coastal ecosystems was created.
In 2001, a collection of carvings from Qualicum First Nation Carver Jesse Recalma was added to the Pavilion. Jesse stated that “this is the perfect spot to really have an expression of sharing imagery that comes with our stories in our history of the natural world around us.”
