On November 18, 2024, a streamkeeper team advised by fisheries biologist Dave Clough added over 200 native shrubs and trees to the banks of Beach Creek on both side of the new fish friendly culvert.
The plants will augment the plants and grasses planted by the Town as part of the culvert construction, and will add additional bank stability and shade for fish habitat.
The work was financially supported by a grant from the Pacific Salmon Foundation.
While the team was working, a number of spawning coho salmon were spotted just below the culvert in a newly built channel and gravel bed. Not unexpectedly, a young deer appeared as the work was done to check out the juicy new plants.
