After only two weeks of fundraising, and as a result of the great response from so many individuals and organizations, we have reached our fundraising goal for the removal of the “Block of Doom” from the Qualicum Beach waterfront.
Plans have now been finalized for the physical removal of the derelict dock from the beach early in 2026, no easy task for a large concrete structure sitting at the high water mark. The dock will be moved to the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Cedar landfill site, where it will be repurposed in accordance with the RDN Zero Waste Hierarchy.
Qualicum Beach Streamkeepers would like to recognize and thank the many members and supporters who made individual donations, as well as the Fanny Bay Salmonid Enhancement Society, the Parksville Lions Club, the Coastal Community Credit Union, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Town of Qualicum Beach and the RDN for their significant support.
