Stream Mapping Training

If you are interested in learning how to carry out stream mapping, representatives of Weaver Technical are offering a training course on either February 11 or 12 at Grandon Creek in Qualicum Beach. Tuesday, February 11 is the first date, but if there are windy conditions that day the session will be moved to February 12.

The session will start at 9 am, in the parking lot at the bottom of Grandon Creek at the west end of Crescent Road West. The initial training will take a couple of hours, and then continue with the upstream mapping of the creek for several more hours. The project is part of an initiative to update the maps of both Beach and Grandon Creeks and identify water sources and bank conditions. The work is being financially supported by the Pacific Salmon Foundation and the Regional District of NanaimoWatershed Protection Branch.

The instream mapping volunteers will need some good boots and warm clothing, as well as some ability to hop logs and climb up and down steep banks.
